"You don't believe in learning the lessons of history?"

Yes, I do. I just don't think that your interpretation of it is the only one or the correct one.

"You like just bumbling around repeating the same mistakes and not achieving your national goals?"

Don't be silly.

"Don't you have eyes?"

Yes. Maybe it's just these rose colored glasses I wear.

"Focus on just what I've already posted: the histories of Iran and Iraq in the second half of the 20th. century"

I have, and I balance it against the demise of world-wide communism, and think we are better off now than we were 20 years ago. You obviously do not, and we can just disagree on that. Again, you are telling your beliefs (that we are worse off as a whole), and not facts.

"All I maintained was that hewing closer to our TRUE national interests (democracy, free markets, human rights, open trade, sound legal systems) would consistently produce BETTER and LONGER LASTING foreign policy successes than sucking up to the 'dictator of the month'"

We sometimes suck up to the dictator when it is the lesser of two evils. In this case again I will take the demise of worldwide communism over some pissed off Arabs. My view, rightly or wrongly is that they would still be pissed at us if we were as succeful as we are. We can't cure everyone's problems in one day, and we did not cause everyone's problems, as many on the left seem to believe. The world as a whole is a better place because of America, anb that trend will continue imo. Especially if we keep sleeasy self serving types like Clinton out of office and elect "pragmatic" types like Reagan, Bush and Bush.

Gotta go for now. Good chatting with you. Will check back in tomorrow.
