William Greider made exactly that point in the introduction to "One World: Ready or Not". He described in much greater detail the derision that politicians have for the electorate, who they are dumbing down at an alarming rate. One SIer says we are now becoming just another banana republic here in the U.S., with a tinpot dictator and a totally emasculated and ill-educated "voter". He could be on to something.
