U.S. Profits Rose in 2nd Qtr

New York, July 26 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. corporate profits rose 9 percent in the second quarter, the first increase after five straight declines, as consumers bought household goods and cars and businesses lowered costs.

Investors and analysts predict more earnings gains in the second half.

The second-quarter increase is based on results of the 371 companies in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.

Is the Tech Recession Over?

Corporate America is spending more on IT equipment and services for the first time since late 2000, indicating an end to the recession that has cast a shadow over the entire tech landscape, according to a new report.

The report, released by the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Wednesday, equipment and software sales should top out with a modest 2.9 percent gain in the second quarter of 2002.

Contract Prices of DRAMs Up for First Time in Three Months

July 18, 2002 (SEOUL) -- Contract prices for DRAMs, which have been on a continuous downward trend since the end of March, recovered for the first time in three months on July 16.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and Hynix Semiconductor Inc. said they succeeded in raising the value of contract prices with main clients, which include major PC manufacturers.
