Clean up our markets - good one Mark. The people who run our country like the markets the way they are. Our limited number of major banks has snapped up most of the online brokerages, and lobbied our government to make it illegal(or next to impossible) to hold brokerage accounts in other countries. They've created a closed system.

One has to incorporate outside the country to take advantage of good online brokers.

As a Canadian, I do not buy Canadian stocks unless they trade on exchanges in the USA. I simply do not trust the rest of them. There is a certain criminal element that has always run scams on the Canadian markets, and nothing has been done to actually remove them from play.

Freedom of the press would help, but it is rare these days up in the great white north. An editor of a major newspaper was recently fired immediately after writing a negative article on our Prime Minister. The owner of the newspaper, one Izzy Asper, is a media mogul with close ties to the PM and his party.

You can be free up here, but you need to plan it out and stick to your plan.
