99DAN, I added google to favs on the links bar. Then I simply dragged it from there to the quick launch bar. That worked - G icon and all. No right clicking involved.

Will the G survive a reboot? I'll find out tomorrow.

Not guaranteed, but may help...

Right click the icon and select properties. Using the Program tab, click the Change Icon button. You'll get a window telling you what Icon is being used. Do this with both computers and copy the Icon information to match the system that's working properly.
