John, our enemy is not just Al Qaeda, it is Islamism.

Much, much too large a generalization. Even a dangerous one. Enemies are groups, nations, etc. which attack us; enemies are not groups, nations, whatever who hold less than favorable views of us. If the latter were true, then, at least at this point in history, the cue would be long.

There is a very long post here, Nadine, which has to do with differentiations within what you are calling the Islamist movement and differentiations within actions taken by them and differentiations as to proper actions we should take. Take the latter case alone, those proper actions can vary from attacks to attempts to address the underlying conditions.

I'm not writing that post; don't plan to do so. But I consider the line "Islamism is the enemy" to not only be a gross over simplification but a dangerous one.
