Yes, tying interests of friends to issues that have caught the public's imagination. I think they have learnt that with any retired adviser of the Cold War period.

There are, apparently, any orphans of the Cold War who would love to see the "good" old times come back. It was easier then. Support an autocrat, let him do whatever he wants, as long as Cold Warriors could rake in the cash. Oh, am I describing Suharto? The Shah of Iran? Nicaragua's Somoza, Paraguay's Stroessner? Nasser and Anwar Sadat of Egypt? or the biggest of all the Royal family of Saudi Arabia?
