War will bring a flight of "safety" to the dollar. A good reason for strength.

I concur. I think the rumour that USA will attack, leads to the US Dollar strength.
"Have you ever run a UD Dollar Index chart with out re floating the US Dollar index weight?"

Hey Tom, you make me laugh. Here's me, verging on Alzheimer's, and you talk about the great intellect. Amazing what the internet can do for one's image!

>War will bring a flight of "safety" to the dollar. A good reason for strength. US still carries the biggest sticks

Militarily, that is so but, nevertheless, the balance of economic power in the world is slowly moving from the West, and definitely from the US, to Europe, Japan, China and the sub-continent of India.

Why I suggested that the strengthening of USD was an indication of peace rather than war was because a great deal of strength in the USD has to do with foreign perceptions about the US and, from what I have read, there is almost universal disapproval for the proposed war in Iraq. The reasons are not only because there's no UN approval nor disbelief that the US can win easily but concern about what happens afterwards to the economy of Iraq and the balance of power in the region. It is seriously considered that, far from being a boost to the US economy, the war will be a burden.

I'm keeping fine, thanks for asking. Hope you are, too. I agree, ability to dissent is important and that's largely why I'm bleating so much.
