Jim, I like your idea on tax cuts and especially not taxing dividends. That is the only idea that would actually create real income rather than more debt. Of course we would need some fiscal responsibility by the government but I suppose tax cuts would get us through this strucutral correction quicker.
Of course you know Congress would never give us more tax cuts and they are more likely to raise taxes and drastically increase government spending as a way to get us out of this correction. They might want to go ask the Japanese how worthless government projects helped Japan out of its funk.

Couple of thoughts on your stimulus package, Jimbob..

I am all for the personal, corporate and capital gains cuts.

Not sure about the $5000 per child, we have plenty of kids in the world...some might see it as a encouragement to have more kids.

reduce military and fed pensions...well that should be fun to watch...nothing motivates people to act like cutting into their retirement funds

rolling back tariffs...all for it

Raising margin requirements is exactly what your buddy Greenspan should have done when he was talking about irrational exuberance...why didn't he? It was so obviously the thing to do....who applied the pressure to not raise the requirements?

Returning all forces from Afghanistan would be a disaster. It would repeat a mistake we have made over and over...now that we are there, we should commit to doing whatever it takes to help them redevelop their society. We can't walk out on them now.
