Carl, on the subject of Kuwait, there was this interesting little polling tidbit published in the June Harper's Index:

Percentage of Iranians and Kuwaitis, respectively, who say that the September 11 attacks were "totally justifiable" : 8, 18

Attributed to Gallup, no less. Hard to say why the numbers broke that way, I got a feeling that while absence might make the heart grow fonder in Iran, the Kuwaitis might, in general, have had a little too much up close and personal experience of American attitudes toward the Arab world over the last 10 years. If Americans are going to insist on applying blanket "Arab mind" stereotypes across the whole region, maybe, just maybe, that might reflect back on us in unpleasant ways.
