Thanks for this, Ted. I had read it earlier and still am trying to discern where the "sweet spot" for the Hammer will be.

I can understand that it could extend the reach for AMD in the desktop space, if 64-bit apps are developed for it. I'm still not convinced that Hammer will be a great performance boost in the 32-bit app space.

The real wild card (and one I'm still trying to get my arms around) is how Hammer will play in the workstation, small form factor server, and high end server market. AMD hasn't been very clear on how they position the Hammer in these markets. If Hammer is relegated to the desktop, I see that as "more of the same 'ole same 'ole". A continuing footrace for AMD. If Hammer can really play in the server space, well that's a different animal altogether.
