Cisco's CFO Carter Intends to Retire
Tue Aug 6, 6:05 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Larry Carter, chief financial officer for Cisco Systems Inc., the biggest maker of data-networking equipment, intends to retire next May, on his 60th birthday, Cisco's chief executive said on Tuesday.

John Chambers, Cisco's chief executive, said on a conference call to discuss its fiscal fourth-quarter results said that Carter had decided over the weekend to retire next May.

But Chambers also said he will try to convince Carter to remain beyond his 60th birthday. Chambers and Carter made the announcement amid rumors and speculation in the last several weeks about Carter's departure.

Dennis Powell, a longtime Cisco vice president and the company's controller, has been named as Carter's successor.

Chambers and Carter also said they expect first-quarter revenue to be flat to up in "very low single-digit growth" terms from fourth-quarter levels, the same guidance it gave for the just-completed fourth quarter.
