ICIS-LOR said the 30-day rolling average prices (June 20-July 19, 2002) for 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) for large-volume users dropped to US$2.98 in North America, to US$3.41 in Europe, and to US$3.09 in Asia. In comparison with the previous week (the 30-day rolling average prices up to July 12), the prices dropped by 1.89 percent in North America, by 6.25 percent in Europe, and by 6.08 percent in Asia. As for the prices of memory modules, the spot prices of 128MB DIMMs (PC133) rose 6.22 percent in North America from the previous week to US$20.65, they rose 7.72 percent to US$20.92 in Europe, and they increased 5.87 percent to US$20.18 in Asia, also in comparison with the previous week. By product type, the spot prices of double data rate (DDR)-type 128Mb DRAMs directed toward North America rose 16 percent in terms of the 30-day rolling average prices (details are available for Nikkei Market Access registered members only). However, because the price increases were so sharp, there has been a reaction downward on a daily basis. While the 30-day rolling average prices of DRAMs have continued to rise on a daily basis, the overall rise has stopped. Some expectations had been heard that the increases in the DDR and single data rate (SDR)-type spot prices would have ripple effects on prices for large-volume users, as early as the end of July. Yet, no such movement was observed. It appears that users, centering on personal computer makers, did not respond positively to the demands for price increases made by DRAM makers.
