Hi Elmat, <<"...the crunch question: if the new crusaders defeat and occupy Iraq, what then?" ... Well, they will put a friendly regime a la Shah Reza Palehvi and loot all the oil!>>

There will be a need to make available on permanent basis a large contingent of Marines and Special Forces as bodyguards and pipeline guards, because democratic mob on the street and in the desert will not accept such a leader, just as they did not in Iran not so very long ago.

Oops, what am I talking about democracy for. I should be talking oil. Yes, friendly enlightened dictator, by all means; worked before, for a while, and then not, but can worry about that later;0)

Just as technology has shortened product life cycles and increased valuation amplitudes, I believe technology will shorten political ruling cycles and revolt amplitudes.

Let us watch, from a safer distance.
