Chipmakers Hike Prices of 256-M DDR Chips
by Cho Hyung-rae (hrcho@chosun.com)

Major chipmakers in the country reportedly raised their contract prices for 256-megabit DDR (double data rate) DRAM chips by about 10 percent recently.
A market source said Tuesday that Samsung Electronics and Hynix Semiconductor hiked their prices of 256-megabit DDR DRAM chips, which have emerged as a core trade item recently, through negotiations with three to four long-term customers early this week.

The market source, however, commented that prices of other chips, such as 128-megabit DDR DRAM chips or commodity SDRAM chips, are likely to be frozen for the time being or to decline slightly.
