I'm a chart chaser, that is the real comparison that I think has to be recognized. Each time period is going to have it's own set of issues, so I wouldn't expect to see the same exact profile. I don't think that there was any credit card debt in the 1929 bear, but I do think that it will play a big role in the later stages of our bear.

And as far as the comparison to quality products, with high tech products we have been trained to accept flaws as a part of the product. And justify it as much as you want with the complexity argument, but if my toaster was as flakey as my computer, I would be raising a big stink.

I do think that your point about ESPP and online trading is a major influence on the stockmarket landscape. And I doubt that we know the full effects yet.

You hit the nail on the head in present day telecom. They have an inability to provide services in a profitable way. They're in a downward spiral. Unless a new invention takes over the voice/data transmission that allows them to operate profitably, CSCO's future base decreases further. And the analysts are raising estimates, based on what? I like CSCO, but won't buy back until the situation changes.

Right. I think for better or worse, the mainstream people now believe the stock market is the best place to be long term. I think people forget how alluring and addictive the whole thing is. :) Anyway, I don't think you'll see wholesale abandonment of the stock market any time soon.
