RtS, I think Gottfried is right, I don't think there is any clear indication that KLIC leads all the time. I took the liberty of adding 1 more year to Gottfried's chart to cover the October period in 1988.

I think you can find periods when KLIC both leads and lags AMAT. In some periods they are pretty close together, and in others, they vary widely.

Note at the end of the period, however, AMAT is up about 50 percent from where it was in October 1998 while KLIC is down about 35 percent.

And just for kicks, lets put a little color in that chart and compare KLAC, NVLS and LRCX over that period as well.<gg>

You're right G and Don. I'm just looking for a clear signal of the bottom and not yet finding one. Perhaps only hindsight will provide it.
