Anon, imho you're making a mistake by basing your arithmetic and judgements on all time highs of a particular stock. Forget about these all time highs; unless you sold then, they are irrelevant. Let me suggest the following exercise: take the day when a company's stock reached all-time high, get the company's earnings (pro-forma or GAAP, whatever you like) for that year and couple previous years, calculate the growth rate to come up with a reasonable PE, and come up with the reasonable stock price. Then make your comparisons... JMHO.
