Newsflash: Briefing 'Not In Deflation Camp' 08:32 ET PPI, Claims better than expected : PPI fell 0.2% and the core rate fell 0.3%, both lower than consensus estimates of 0.1%; these numbers were much better than expected unless you fear deflation, unless they might be cause for concern. We do not fall into the deflation camp, however, as there is abundant evidence that deflation is not a serious threat currently. Jobless Claims fell 15K to 376K, a bit below the 385K consensus but consistent with the relatively encouraging steady sub-400K we have seen for weeks.
