I am going to go out on a limb, again.
I think the odds are significantly increasing that the low we saw July 22-23rd and the 10% rebound that followed marked a turning point in the market.
Stock markets change direction when the psychology of the investing public changes. Of course, interest rates, the economy, outsidd events, etc, are all hugely important.
The puke out stocks mentality that we saw in the 3rd week i July qualifies to some extent to the capitulation that so many say we need to have to put in a true bottom.
The fear that raged, get me out of the mutual funds - into cash or intermediate govies, was a mania.
It could easily be replaced by a buying panic that could propel the DOW up 600 points or more in a given day, perhaps a test of 9,000 or 9,500 might come.
I think the rush out of mutual funds could be replaced by a rush back into them.
As for whether we are heading for a double dip or not, it may well be that the failure of the market to rally significantly as economic numbers improved was its reaction to the expected double dip. Remember, the market is typically 6-9 months ahead of the economy.
Of course, KT reading this, is probably listing all the stocks he should short. ggg. larry

PALM ..

interesting FA you have there Dan'll ....

let us both keep an eye on it ===== NO contest type of dealie... just that we'll both look at it ....

you buy it OR not
I'll buy it OR not ****(and sellit and buyit and sellit etc)

again ... I don't mean to turn this into a pi$$ing match ... at my age, I can't beat anybody at anything cept'n for being large......

don't know if I've told the tread or not, but if so --- I'll just repeat it ....

I can make the statement at all family gatherings that I am the tallest person, male or female there ...
now, my son-in-law is six-four, my son is six-one, my eldest daughter is five-ten -------- and I've shrunk *(height only, sadly) from five-eleven to a wee bit *(NOT much, but a wee bit) below five-ten *(as in five-nine-plus) in my golden years ......

but --- the statement that I'm the tallest is TRUE ...

to win, I must get everyone to lie down flat on the floor
and THEN we measure height .... hahahahaha

again, no contest type of dealie ...

we'll both just look at and act on PALM ...
and post about it ...ok??????

I'll start ----
I'll wait for ****(target right NOW only) for 1.05 to buy ... and this target is NOT etched in stone as it will move up or down ...
