9:35 (Dow Jones) Merrill Lynch analyst Brett Hodess says Applied Materials' (AMAT) order growth in its fiscal 3Q, which the company will report next week, may come in higher than his expectation of 15% growth. "Most of the other large caps that have reported have seen strong sequential order growth in the June quarter," says Hodess. "We believe Applied has the potential to see 20% order growth in the quarter, putting orders just over $2 billion." Still, in terms of AMAT's order guidance for the 4Q, Hodess expects the company to say orders will be down at least 10% and possibly 20%. AMAT off 2.4% early at $13.23. (DLF)

Brian, WSJ's spin is that WMT didn't meet expectations. Intel won't expense stock options biz.yahoo.com

>>>but then these aren't ordinary times<<<

Its good to see a stock trading in double digits...I got a whole list of speculative buys for who double digits is a far off dream.

Nothing wrong with posting about WMT. They are fast being recognized as a proxy for consumer spending. If WMT same store sales for a month ever turn negative AMAT and NVLS will be under $5.00 a share.

Brian,

On WMT. Wonder if some of those Sales Tax Free school supply and clothing weekends occuring Aug 2,3,4 had anythign to do with "leser" July same store sales.
