My criticism of Clinton is not ad homenem. And if you think my reasoning doesn't apply, please refute it. But don't suggest that my statement isn't
"reasoned" just because you don't agree with it.

I am not terribly interested in a discussion on what cannot be changed. I would only say that Bush would never have been able to make a case for attacking Iraq before Sept 11 (just as Clinton could not). Even now, Bush is facing daunting opposition, with the full effect of Sept 11 still fresh on the nation and the world. But, I suspect we will never agree on management style, so let's say that I am more concerned about the current course of action. A case to attack a sovereign nation cannot be made on the basis of the picture of an airstrip, otherwise we should be bombing Canada. My reference to loss of hope was more to indicate the level of rhetoric coming from the administration in opposition to a political or containment policy.

Anyway, what is the case? Show it to Congress, the American people and the rest of the world. Don't hide behind intellectual security shields. What are the alternatives? Why can't we contain? We contained the USSR for 50+ years.

David, Saddam is being insane once again:

Defiant Saddam Says Any U.S. Attack Doomed

story.news.yahoo.com

Here's the dumbest part of the story:

Ordinary Iraqis seemed galvanized by Saddam's speech.

"We are not afraid of America, (U.S. President George W.) Bush or others," Hadi Abbass told Reuters. "We are ready to sacrifice our blood, soul and children for the president."

There have been real reports that Saddam Insane is forcing his own people to say things like this. I remember seeing an interview of an Iraqi-American who was actually in Baghdad during the Gulf War. He confirmed that the anti-American rallies were all staged.

Of course, I'm sure that little fact was "overlooked" by Reuters.
