That is the same reason my mom doesn't like it.

She even has a prejudice against Teutonic mythology. IMO it isn't the fault of the mythology, it is the fault of the people who believe in it. Any mythology can be perverted to evil- and most have been. Yet there is still beauty that grows out of them. I find great beauty in much religious and mythological art work, and I try to divorce my enjoyment of the work, from realities of practice that might attend the religion or mythology. If I couldn't do that I'd have a hard time appreciating Oceanic art (for example), which I like very much.

<< I am not very fond of Wagner. I admit, some of it is aversion to his proto- Naziism >>

Why condemn Wagner just because he hung out with the enemy? Just think of a nice poem, or a Christian passage, like perhaps...

"Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil....... "

BTW, it's Die Meistersinger, not Der Meistersinger.
