It is now up to us to enforce the terms of the cease-fire.

I disagree. The cease fire was negotiated by the coalition on behalf of the UN. Sanctions were imposed by the UN to punish Iraq for presumably impeding the work of the inspectors. There are differing views as to whose fault that really was, depending on wether you listen to Butler or Ritter. I don't know the truth, but Butler has been described as a tool of US intelligence, and Ritter a traitor. By the way, the former ambassador to Iraq has come squarely on the side of containment and has strongly debunked the notion that Iraq poses a direct threat to the US. The point is, we have contained without loss of Americal life for >10 years. Bush needs to make a case proving that we we can't continue to contain before commiting the country to war in which American lives are sure to be lost.

What the rest of the world thinks about that is a different discussion.

Ignoring this would folly.

How that is not Clinton's fault would be interesting to hear.

It's not a productive topic. Doesn't change what faces the US today. And any discussion is purely hypothetical and very vulnerable to political persuasion.

The only thing that muddies the water is that we should have immediately enforced the terms. How that is not Clinton's fault would be interesting to hear.

Brian, if you wish to place blame, then place it where it belongs.......Bush Sr. Why did he not go in and take out Saddam when he had the chance? That was our best opportunity to clear him out with the least amount of effort.......our troops were already over there. We had him contained. Why did Bush Sr. wuss out? Was he chicken...weak......a loser? Why?!!!
