I don't know that an opposition to torture equates with a contempt for victims. Nor do I think that a partiality toward torture is a distinction of "conservatism".

A reluctance to enshrine torture as a legitimate "right" of the State is not definitive of either conservatism or liberalism. I know many conservatives who are opposed to torture under most circumstances. Something about the Constitution, I believe...
