I'm really getting into this rock thingy. <G> On the way up the Klondike Hwy, pulled down a dirt trail called Plume Creek Agate Road, supposed to be plume agates and geodes in the stream. Took the ATV down the river bank but my idea of agates where those colorful shiny stones and it wasn't until I was leaving and met a couple walking up the trail, showed me some they'd found, that I really understood what to look for. As for the geodes, how the heck do you know if you have one unless you can cut the damned thing in half?? Stopped at the Tintina Trench oversite, very interesting, runs from the Artic to the lower 48. South of Prince George it's called the Rockey Mt. Trench - the plate tectonics thingy. Took a lot of video on the Top of the World Hwy, one of my favorites (goes above treeline). You can tell there was some serious pushing and shoving going on here years ago - mountains and hills are steep and the valleys low. Camped out on the old Clinton Rd (about 30 miles off the TotW Hwy. Took the ATV up to the abandoned Clinton Asbestos Mine site. The asbestos was veined in green rock (actual asbestos fibers). Never knew it was like that. They spent some serious money on that place. I'll post some of the pictures on the web site this winter, you'll probably get a kick out of them. Stopped at a rock slide about 40 miles south of Dawson and thought I'd hit it lucky. Black rock with veins of shiny gold in them (it was raining). Kept a few of the big rocks (about softball size) but when they dried out, that shiny gold turned a muddy yellow :-( I did find a baseball size piece of quartz with a little god in it, but don't remember where I found it. Going to head back up the Klondike Hwy, probably Wed., to that agate trail, then back to Whitehorse, Haines, Whitehorse, Atlin, and then back down the Cassiar, hopefully with the leaves turning. By the way, I did take your advice and got two books - Gem Trails of BC, by Cam Bacon, and Gemstones and Mineral Sites of BC, by Rick Hudson (A Days Drive from Vancouver). Going to see if I can find some gemstones. My oldest daughter is a wholesale diamond dealer - maybe I can fill some of her empty settings. <G> Bill/WA
