We've quit going to the book sale. Too tempting, but they don't have the kind of second hand books I'm looking for. And we wind up buying a bunch of stuff that has nowhere to go because we already refilled the shelves we emptied by giving the books to the sale.

Fortunately, our library only has its book sale once a year, so it' s easy to avoid.

When I was young, I had a great need to buy books. Now, I still have a great need to read books, and there are many I need around me, but I am much more willing to read library books rather than buying.

In part, a result of the obligation that the bookshelves I build now have to meet the approval of my wife, and be attractive in their own right, whereas when I was young a few cinderblocks and raw boards from the hardware store would suffice to expand book shelving.
