They are using it in an attempt to keep the attention of their base, whom they can now offer nothing more substantive, since the lost. They have spent so many decades lying to their incredibly stupid base, that they get a lot of latitude on it.

The damage to their fraud machine, and the fanaticism of their moronic base, has been great from their failure in 2000. what you are really seeing id futile damage control...
