Stan,

Which companies make the chips that go into digital TV tuners?

Stan extra cost of digital TV: the Mercury News says some predict this will add hundreds of dollars to the cost of a TV. My WAG is it may add ten bucks. You replace one chip with another - no big difference in cost.

buy a digital receiver that has analog output and use it to feed the TVs in your home.

Of course, the content pigs don't want these legal as you can then copy the material with an analog VCR.... so there will be some battles over why we need the ability to buy ONE box that can feed a whole house of old TVs.
