I read only the post I was responding to and did not see a time stamp so I figured it represented current thinking. I will look back at the precipitating posts when I get a little time.

"The "academy" part always sounded pompous to me. It may have been just another word for "private school."

Privacy implies exclusivity. All of us need to quarter off niches to play in from time to time, or to accomplish one thing or another. Other wise, life becomes too much of a free for all. Grocery stores exclude people who want to throw out a blanket and have a picnic and suggest such people go to a park where like minded folks might be picnicking as well. The word "Academy" bolsters the notion of private and suggests high standards of behavior and achievement. If in fact the institution is committed to high standards then it is not pompous. Some "academies" do not have high standards and so using the term results in eye rolling by people like you and me.

BTW I just turned 50 not 40.

"Your list is just fine for why parents might want to send their kids to a private, Christian school now."

Thank you, I thought it was a good list too. Not being a Christian, I tried to thing of good reasons to form an exclusive group in general. Were there any items that you found objectionable from an atheistic perspective? Were there any you feel could be improved?
