The mess now, would be almost identical to the mess going in then would have caused. The mess is primarily dealing with Iraq after the invasion. World opinion shifts with the winds, we might take a hit at first but it would not be nearly as big as the practical dificulties involved in either making Iraq a colony or trying to support some puppet government until real democracy or at least a stable government can take over in Iraq.
