"It seems in your opinion Emile, that God made a mistake when He chose the Jews as His people."

Not at all! The problem lies with your interpretation of who are the Jews in the New Testament (New Covenant) and who are the Jews in the Old.

What identifies a Jew in the Old Testament, genetics or faith? If you say genetics, then Ismael, the sons of Keturah and Esau are equal heirs in the promises of Abraham. But we know from the scriptures that it wasn't genetics because Ismael, the sons of Keturah, and Esau were all rejected as heirs of the promise.

So if it was not genetics, what was it that made a person a true son and heir of Abraham? It was the faith of Abraham, the same faith that caused God to chose Abraham as a chosen vessel in the first place.

Genesis 15
"5": And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

"6": And he believed in the LORD(Abraham had faith); and he counted it to him for righteousness.

God chose Abraham's faith, not his genetics!

Now if you think I am simply making this up to support some weird theology, turn to:
Galatians 3
"6": Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.

"7": Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

Now turn to:
Galatians 3
"16": Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many;(Did you get that? Not to genetics but to the childen of faith) but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

"17": And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

The children of Abraham are not the children of the law, or the children of genetics, but rather the children of FAITH!

And against turn to:
Galatians 3
"18": For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Now let's put it all in context by turning to:
Romans 2:

"28": For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

"29": But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God

And finally back to:
Galatians 3
"27": For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

"28": There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

"29": And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

I hope an pray that this little study has helped you understand the Gospel of Christ and the glory of God's salvation in Christ.

Emile

"so you and I would have salvation through Jesus Christ"

Not you and I, but rather the Gentiles of the first century when the New Covenant was inaugurated and the Gentiles joined the Jews in forming the new covenant Israel of God.
If you cannot read the scriptures in context, you cannot understand the scriptures.

The first century is past and finished! The Gentiles entered the Covenant of God, the remnant of Jews of faith were saved ("all Israel shall be saved" was fulfilled when all the Jews of faith finally accepted Christ after the jealousy of watching the first century Gentiles flood in the Church.)

We no longer live in the twenty first century after 20 glorious, holy and divine centuries of Church history. The children of Abraham --children of faith--were and are still being harvested out of every nation. The children of faith have glorified the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in every nation and among every people while the children of the flesh have glorified themselves in lust, money and pride.

In the old covenant, God spoke to his children through the prophets and the law:
Matt. 12
"13": For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14": And if ye will receive it, this is Elijah, which was for to come.

and in Hebrew 1
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

But under the New Covenant in the last days, God speaks to his children by Jesus Chrsit his son:
Hebrews 1

2: Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Jesus established the New Covenant 2000 years ago and created his Church--the Body of Christ!

Hebrews 8
"7: For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second.
8: For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
9: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
11: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
12: For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more

And after creating the New Covenant, he abolished the old.
13: In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away

Christ is now all in all! All the promises of God are now ye and amen in Jesus, not in Talmudic Judaism and not in Israel, but again, IN JESUS!
