Typical liberal mentality - raise taxes to cover short-term deficits. How about another choice, such as reducing pork-barrel spending and eliminating governmental fraud and abuse? You think Enron and WorldCom are bad? There's probably 10 times the waste in the Federal government.

I agree. It's amazing to me how fast we have wasted the hard earned fiscal discipline of the Clinton administration and a very good Republican congress. I don't give them all the credit, remember when all the polls showed that Americans would prefer a balanced budget to a tax cut? When the Bush administration came in, it seemed to signal an end to any thoughts of a balance budget.

It was a rare for our politicians to achieve that level of discipline, instigated by the Republicans and embraced by the Clinton administration. I doubt I'll see it again in my lifetime. I don't know if it is coincidental that we had our greatest bull market at the same time.
