Bob Rudd, speaking of Marty Whitman, he must be one of only a few pros who like MONY (MNY).

Yahoo shows that 10 of the 10 analysts who follow MNY rate it as a hold or sell.

If MNY could only earn even 8% again on its $42+ book value, that would be about $3.36. Stock might move back up from its current lows (about $27 now). May take me about 18 months to find out.

I started a position after Wednesday's latest downgrade. Also for me, "a small speculative seat of the pants nibble."

PALM: Stepped to the sidelines @.96. This spike appears based on rumors of potential takeover by either Dell, Apple or Sony. All would be credible purchasers with 4 to 6 Billion in cash apeice...[PALM even at $2 would have an EV <$1B]and all are either in [SNE] or have indicated an interest in getting in[DELL & AAPL], the handheld biz...but I'm just real suspicious of one day 35% spikes. Even if one or more of the above is sniffing around, I'd expect some denials. Also the CEO bought 250k shares on 8/9...a definite positive...but, if there had been DD contacts, he would be leaving himself open to insider trading charges if deal were announced.
It wouldn't surprise me if they do get taken out, but I would expect some pullbacks from todays speculative run-up. If I'm wrong, I'm still happy with the 35% since 8/9.

Sold AMAT @16.22 for 20% gain...it's reflecting more animal spirits than fundamentals, well over prior trough multiples.
Added to THC @24.71 yesterday. The markets looks to me to be misreading/over-reacting to newsflow...looking for recovery back to early 30's within 6 months.
Started CCRN yesterday @13, large nursing staffer. Very low multiples for ~20% grower with favorable demographic and regulatory forces. Solid balance sheet...will soon buy back stock.
