Many people have TVs that are 10 or more years old which work just fine today. My guess is there will be a huge uproar from the lower income bracket if one day their current TV won't work any more. JMO

Yup and I made about 1 long distance phone call a month in 1983 before they busted up AT&T and I was perfectly happy with PG&E before they let Enron give us "cheaper electricity" through competitive bidding.

Our government seems bought and paid for by those that want to "give the consumer something we need" rather than something we want... We WANT lower prices, fair competition and choice. What we get is crap shoved down our throats that end up costing us more after all those that were paid off or sold out long ago made off with all the money we were supposed to save. Sure we got lower phone bills for awhile... but I gave back 100 years of long distance savings when WorldCon went under... and AT&T investors lost as T tried to compete with MCI that it thought was a profitable model... so they all sold at a loss and all lost money for investors.

The whole TV thing is to give us crap we don't need (high def digital...) so they can sell the less efficient spectrum and fill it with more services to sell us.

I'm perfectly happy to rent a DVD at Longs Drugs for $0.99 if I want to see a movie in high definition... Now AT&T wants me to pay $60 a month to watch the Sopranos... fergetaboutit! I am going to try without all the cable for awhile or try dish...

[end pissed off mode]

Michael, >My guess is there will be a huge uproar from the lower income bracket if one day their current TV won't work any more. JMO <

However, many of the lower income bracket individuals do not vote so they will probably be discounted by the politicians and the FCC.
