Alastair,

Where did you get or how did you arrive at the Industry capex number?

TIA

Brian

RE: "Regarding capex, is AMAT losing market share?"

I would say no, but I don't have the numbers. From sales and order numbers of various companies I have seen, I would only cite KLAC and NVLS as semi-equips that are possibly gaining share.

this says $33.1B in 2000 and $23.3B for 2001 for total CapX... your numbers seem way off.

I guess my numbers were not "way off" after all.

Applied expects overall capital expenditures of chipmakers in 2002 to decline 25.2 percent to $29 billion compared with a previous expectation for a decline of 20 percent. Spending on wafer equipment is expected to fall 20.3 percent to $17 billion instead of the 15 percent decline previously expected.

I posted a 2002 estimate of $31B for capex and $17.1B for WFE spending.
