Evidentally there's a known bug in '98 that prevents the machine from being shut down...

Do you have 98 now? I have the same problem with the 98 version. I don't think that the bug prevents Windows from shutting down, it just fails to let you know when it's finished. I watch the LED that indicates hard disk activity and shut my machine down when it goes off. Never have any FAT problems that I know of. My biggest problem is system lock-up, I never know when it might happen.

I have another machine that runs NT. Like Shootie, I never have any problems with NT.
