Where were we in stopping Pol Pot? During the Hutu slaughter? Our selectiveness in where to intervene gives rise to charges of racism, or more accurately, fighting not just for freedom of the individual but for the freedom of big business interests.

Saddaam is a bully and needs to be watched and suppressed. We do a fairly good job of that, it seems. But accepting at face value all our government tells us about his future plans is not patriotism; it's Stepford-Wife-ism. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, we've been witness to numerous shocking admissions about what our intelligence community DIDN'T/DOESN'T know, so now we should believe they have the inside goop on Saddaam?

He can be brought down by economic sanctions that stick, negotiated with those who worm their way around them. The cost is less in lives of our young and the lives of many ordinary Iraqis.
