Thanks for that article.

It left me with the sense that the good doctor wasn't coping well with a more informed patient. Perhaps this democratizing of medical knowledge is the thing that's really "damaging" the doctor/patient relationship, in his mind.

Advertising is annoying, but it can be informative and it always gives people choices. In the article we note that Ira was on Motrin, asked to go on Viox, then to Celebrex and after trying the two he settled for Viox. Presumably he is happier now than when on Motrin. It was advertising and not the doctor that led him to a new drug.

As for the extra drug costs associated with advertising. That happens; the economic role of advertising is a large issue, one that the internet is grappling with right now. What would our society be like if it didn't exist?
