if that argument is correct then conversely the Naz should have topped out lower due to all the buying by the public in the late 90s.

I'm not convinced that the "public" is doing that much shorting. Sure you have a fair number of people on SI doing it, but we aren't really a representative sample. The bulk of people that I know are still in the camp that shorting is unamerican and evil.

i doubt it....many bears who turned bearish too early and missed the best part of the bull market....

will turn bullish too early here and get beat up with more downside.....

i already see that happening.....thats how the final washout in 32 happened.....even those who survived what they thought was the worst part got bullish again too early....
