Yes, burned out. You think the Soviets had an inexhaustable supply of manpower?? There is nothing in those sites which you gave which I don't know and they hardly prove your point. Matter of fact, the one site regarding Berlin points out how the Germans didn't have enough fuel and that war production was both down and quality was lacking. Still, the Germans managed to slaughter 305,000 Russians and wound about 600,000 more. This mighty war machine is going to stop the US?? Hardly. The US had superior artillary, logistics, aircraft, and man power. The above actually sounds like the Russians were scraping the bottom of the barrel and throwing untrained manpower into the battle.

After Pearl Harbor, there was no problem getting anybody in the USofA behind the war. As for being able to carry casualties, try looking at some of the island hopping in the Pacific. Or the example you gave about Polesti; US airman still climbed into their bombers and took it to the axis after these losses. The fact that the US suffered low losses over all should point out just how smart we fight. The anti war sentiment pre WW2 had to do with the post WW1 feeling that WW1 was just about saving the British and French Empires from the German Empire, and not saving the world for democracy.

By the way, claiming that my saying that the US, a polyglot nation if there ever was one. had superiority in these areas is similar to what Hitler meant is pretty low rent.

On another board some of us once got into this topic and after about 3-4 days we all got sandbagged by a German WW2 vet posting who had emigrated to the US and had married an American. He had spent 1 year on the eastern front, been wounded, recovered, and then reassigned to a division sent to face the United States. He gave some rather graphic descriptions and stated he had never seen the firepower equivilent on the eastern front. He also commented favorably on US tactical ability and willingness to fight.

You believe what you want, but if you think getting killed in a Soviet version of a banzei charge, or stupidly drowned in a tank during a river crossing is the best way to win a war, good luck, we don't.

Regarding PQ17, if your British, rest assured my respect for the RN is higher then you think.
