Yes, astounding if true. That the "regime change" would be commenced by Turkish troops in Kurd country is remarkable. Kinda puts the kaibosh on all the "What about the Turk/Kurd problem" talk we heard so much about. We must be carefull though, the WP is not the original source. The reporter cites "Turkish papers" as his source. That does not mean that the Turkish press is wrong, and in fact may be in the best position to know. I'd still like to get one more source before I call it a wrap.

If it is true it has some pretty profound implications for ole Saddam. It means the Turks have completely signed on to regime change and are willing to put their own troops on the line, something they didn't do in the Gulf war. Saddam has to think once, twice, and yet again before he attacks Turkish troops. The Turks have a "wonder weapon" Saddam cannot defeat. The Turks threatened to use it against the Syrians when the Syrians were nuturing Ocalan's PKK terror org in the Bekaa. The threat was extraordinarily effective. Ocalan got the boot and now resides in a Turkish prison. What was the weapon? Water. Turkish dams now control the headwaters of the Tigris and the Euphrates. Both Assad and Hussein complained bitterly to the international community about this Turkish threat, which indicates they fear it mightly. Imo Saddam will think long and hard before attacking Turkey or Turkish troop. The Turks truly do have Saddam by the balls with water. Now I have no idea what Turkish intentions are wrt the "water weapon," but if the Turks are truly involved here, the very existence of the threat will give Saddam great pause and cause him great consternation. Imo it is his worst nightmare.

BTW I'm reading:

Get it! Read it! Now! :o} You will be amazed!
After reading just the first half my already high opinion of Wolfowitz and Dennis Ross has skyrocketed. Were you aware that Wolfowitz and Ross had id'ed Saddam as the primary regional threat in - get ready - grab the digitalis - 1978! The part Wolfowitz and Cheney played in the famous "left hook - hail Mary" tactic was GENERATIVE. :o} Also Cheney's "Western Excursion" plan would have come in real handy for Scud hunting. BTW Shwarzkopf poo pooed the Scud threat in western Iraq and did not create an effective battle plan to counter the threat. Turns out Scud attacks on Israel was Saddam's only effective weapon or tactic.
