Velo..wow! that's odd. Santelli and Cashin are two people that I pay heed to if I get a chance to watch CNBC during the day.

Very interesting, indeed.

From CNBC's website:

Rick Santelli joined CNBC Business News as on-air editor in June 1999, reporting live from the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade. His focus is primarily on interest rates, bonds and futures.
A veteran trader and financial executive who has provided live reports on the markets in print and on local and national radio and television, Santelli joins CNBC from the Institutional Financial Futures and Options at Sanwa Futures, L.L.C. There, he was a vice president handling institutional trading and hedge accounts for a variety of futures related products.

Prior to that, Santelli worked as vice president of Institutional Futures and Options at Rand Financial Services, Inc.; served as managing director at Derivative Products Group of Geldermann, Inc., and was vice president in charge of Interest Rate Futures at the Chicago Board of Trade for Drexel, Burnham, Lambert.

Santelli began his career in 1979 as a trader and order filler at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in a variety of markets including gold, lumber, CD's, T-bills, foreign currencies and livestock.

He is a graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana with a Bachelor of Science degree. Santelli has been a member of Chicago Mercantile Exchange and is presently a member of the Chicago Board of Trade

[T]urns out he's never traded a bond or anything in the pits in his life.

He may never have traded a bond (an assertion I'd certainly doubt, as in past positions he certainly must have hedged with them), but the second part is patently false. Among other things, Santelli traded interest rate futures, currency options, and unspecified T-bill and gold derivatives: all of which are tied inextricably with both Treasury and corporate bonds.

And while I also strongly doubt that he "never traded anything in the pits," how would being an upstairs trader lessen the value or pertinence of his experience?

Just goes to show you what the real big money traders think of the comedy channel.

Oh yeah...talking to retail online traders at an investment conference. LOL.
