It depends how you conceive of power. I subsume it under all of the adjectives you used.

I use "power" to reference the desire and ability to modify existence. It is simply trying to take all those adjectives to a reductionistic level. When I use "power" I do not necessarily mean OVER ANYONE ELSE. I mean simply an initiative toward security, confidence, and freedom from fear.

Power itself is simply energy. When it is used to subjugate or disenfranchise others then it is clearly a negative thing. I probably assume too much when I use the word in reference to religion; but in my opinion, religion originates in an an opposition to fear, weakness, oppression, and the like.

I will not adduce the aggressive reasons of hate, ambition, and moronisity. This may be a job for historians...
