The more-or-less correct approach is to expense the premium at the time the option is issued -- check these numbers for csco: Message 17869047

SB, while all the noise was going on about stock options did you notice San Diego based USLB was bought out?
Believe it or not, I made a profit on USLB stock...while smart money could have got out @ $16.00 ps.
