Hi CobaltBlue; Re: "Unless the troops were already mobilized and we just assumed they were going to Afghanistan."

Oh come on, let's be realistic here. Everyone agrees that Iraq is more of a problem than Afghanistan. Over 50,000 troops were mobilized for Afghanistan. There are still plenty of troops in Afghanistan. One was killed the other day in a firefight.

Declining US active reserves (see #reply-17869276 for the voluminous and enlightening figures) is simply incompatible with a big time attack on Iraq.

I admit that Nadine Carroll had me worried, what with the Stratfor / Debka articles. In fact, when I woke up this morning I (sheepishly) turned on the radio to see if there was an invasion going on.

The feeling I had was like when you show up at someone's house and their little girl tells you that you "can't sit in that chair because Robert is sitting there". So you sit somewhere else. Then you expect to meet Robert, but he never shows up. Eventually you figure out that Robert is an imaginary playmate.

People have needs. Those needs will be met, whether by imaginary playmates or real playmates. Debka and Stratfor are imaginary playmates. When the little girl tells you that "Debka says that her daddy is going to kill her mommy!" do not call the authorities. If you do, you're going to be embarrassed that you ever listened to the silly story. Sure, Debka's story makes a certain amount of sense, but she is just an imaginary playmate.

This reminds me of my 3-year long arguments with the believers in Rambus.

P.S. The US activated reserves figures are not imaginary playmates.
