I was more comfortable with NVLS before yesterday's announcement. I guess $220M is not too big a gamble for NVLS and, possibly, superior management could make a dent in the CMP market.

I don't know whether intel or amat or both are moving processes forward but it would seem to me that a lot of good ideas in the lab need a lot of real world working out before they are really useful. My intuition says it must be a combination of the two.
