I dont think gold or silver money is nessecary or even wanted,what is needed is guarenteed convertibillity of dollars in token form to a fixed amount of gold,or something else aceptible to the public.Much as a currency board worked with the dollar peg for the agentine peso(OOOPS).
No,seriously full value currency (gold or silver coin )does not circulate well.
hoarding,melting, short term current account imbalences,what ever, makes it prone to shortages.Being able to trust your gov. and its economic policy is the best solution.And in the long term that is up to us and who we vote for.
