Right, Lindy, but the bit which was imaginative had to do with destruction of fiberoptic communication cables via Ebombs. Something to the effect that we have the capability of having a bomb sniff out the cables, then destroy them.

I don't see anything in the blurb I linked remotely dealing with that specific issue, though I admit I don't understand most of the jargon.

Sounds like BS to me. High tech weaponry can be pretty amazing so I'm keeping an open mind.

For more information on Information Warfare, you might want to take a look at this link:

airpower.maxwell.af.mil

Makes an interesting point: If a computer or other device attached to a fiberoptic cable can be hacked or compromised, there is really no need to actually go after the cable itself.

However, it seems that if the level of encryption is high enough, hacking into fiberoptic lines won't do the trick. Hence, the better way to accomplish disruption of communications would be to actually destroy the cable or otherwise make it physically unusable.

Yeah, so I just did a search and this amusing article from an unimpeachable source came up.

E-BOMB : In the blink of an eye, electromagnetic bombs could throw civilization back 200 years. And terrorists can build them for $400. popularmechanics.com

Why the warblogging machine hasn't pinned this one on Saddam yet, I can't say.
