President Pervez Musharraf vowed on Wednesday to crush militancy blamed for a wave of violence in recent months culminating in last week's attacks on Christian targets that killed 11 people.

He said a series of arrests following the attacks on a Protestant missionary school for foreign children near Islamabad and a Presbyterian hospital showed that intelligence and security forces were starting to win the fight against extremism.

"All the perpetrators of the (two) attacks have either been killed or all of them have been arrested," he said in his address to the nation on Independence Day.
